Shutter

A roller door that hides arrows until it rolls up.

First appears on level 221

What it does

A shutter is a steel roller door over a rectangle of cells, 2×2 to 3×3 at first and up to 5 cells a side later, with a number on a plate. The arrows under it, even partly, are hidden and locked.

No path gets through a shutter that's down. Each time any arrow leaves the board the number drops by one, and at 0 the shutter rolls up and shows what was underneath.

How to beat it

  • Tapping a shutter only rattles it: it costs no heart.
  • No powerup touches a hidden arrow, because you can't see it. Remove arrow can't take one: tap the shutter with it and nothing is used. Hints, Auto-play and the wand never pick one, and grid lines draw no path for it.
  • Like ice, the number runs out just as you run out of other arrows, so clear everything that isn't waiting on it.

Good to know

  • Level 221 introduces shutters with one, counting from 5. Bigger ones arrive from levels 320 and 420.
  • In-game tip: "Shutters roll up as arrows leave."
