Map rules

Version 1 · 16 October 2026

Anyone can make a map in Exitwise and publish it for every player. These rules keep custom maps fun and fair for everyone. You accept them in the game before your first map goes public.

The rules in short

What custom maps are

Custom maps are levels made by players in the game's map editor. A creator gives the map a name, picks its size and shape, places the arrows and obstacles, and chooses the look of one of the game's worlds, such as Volcano or Jungle. Published maps appear in the Custom maps list for everyone to play. Each one has a share code, its own leaderboard and a star rating, and shows the creator's username.

Before you publish

  • You need a username (the same one as on the leaderboards).
  • You accept these map rules. The game remembers which version you accepted.
  • The game checks every map, and only a map that can be cleared can be published.
  • You clear the map yourself, in exactly the version you publish. If you change anything, you clear it again. Your clear becomes the first entry on the map's leaderboard, with a MAKER badge.
  • A published map can't be edited, so its leaderboard stays fair. You can unpublish it from the Mine tab and publish a new map instead.

What's not allowed

Every part of a map counts: its name, and the picture its arrows, rocks, gates and board shape make. Don't publish:

  • Offensive drawings or shapes: hate symbols, sexual content, slurs or rude words, drawn with arrows, rocks, gates or the shape of the board.
  • Offensive or personal names: rude words, slurs, names that insult someone, or personal details such as a real name, phone number or address. The game also refuses names with rude words.
  • Spam or copies: the same map published again and again, or a copy of someone else's map.
  • Maps that can't be cleared. The game won't publish one, and players can report a map as broken if one gets through.

Reporting a map

Anyone can report a map, from the map's page or with "Report this map" after playing it. You don't have to play it first. Choose a reason:

  • An offensive drawing or shape
  • An offensive name
  • Broken (it can't be cleared)
  • Spam or a copy
  • Something else

You can add a message of up to 500 characters to tell us more. You can report each map once, and the map disappears for you at once. When three different players have reported the same map, it is hidden from everyone until we have looked at it. Reports go only to VGraphics: the creator and other players never see who reported a map. What a report stores is explained in the privacy policy.

What we can do

We look at reported maps, and we can act on any map, reported or not. We can:

  • Keep the map. It comes back for everyone, and it takes three new reports to hide it again.
  • Hide the map or remove it.
  • Stop a creator from publishing. All of their maps are hidden too.

Your own maps stay in your Mine tab with their status: Live, Hidden after reports, or Removed.

Hiding a creator

Don't want to see someone's maps? On one of their maps, tap "Hide name's maps". All of their maps leave your lists. This is for you only, and the creator isn't told. To see their maps again, go to Settings → Hidden creators.

Limits

  • Up to 5 new maps a day, and up to 50 live maps at a time.
  • Up to 20 drafts.
  • Maps are 5 to 40 cells each way, with at least 3 arrows.
  • Names are 3 to 24 characters: letters, digits, spaces and simple punctuation.

Coins

  • The first time you clear someone else's map, it pays coins, more for harder maps. Each map pays you once, ever, on any device.
  • Your own maps never pay, and replays don't either.
  • At most 10 maps pay coins a day. A map you clear after that can still pay once on a later day.

Changes to these rules

This is version 1 of the map rules, from 16 October 2026. If we change them, the version number goes up and the game asks you to accept the new rules before you publish again.
